Ashly Stracener

This is me
Let's face it, resumes can only say so much and can't really speak about personality or life experience. Here's a little more about me and my life to let you get a better picture of who I am and why I might be a great fit for you!

Travel
While it may be cliché, I love to travel. I discovered this love after spending four and half years living in Pennsylvania. Thanks to this move, I was able to visit a vast majority of the U.S. and I've also visited Canada and Mexico. I've also spent a summer living in Chicago while working as an intern. My dream is to finish off the 50 states and one day put my one year of Italian to use and travel to Italy.
I have a strong passion for the arts. I have always loved to craft, paint, and go to museums, but after seeing Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, I fell in love with theater. I love to watch shows and musicals, help out behind the scenes with the set or tech, but I discovered a love for acting too. Some of my favorite roles have been Shelby in Steel Magnolias and Frenchy in the classic Grease. Music is also a great part of my life. I have a background in piano, love to sing, and played the trumpet for five years, the last year spent with OBU's marching band and orchestra.

The Arts

Nature
When I'm not busy working, I love to be outdoors. I love to relax in the serene calm nature provides (the beach is my favorite place to be), but I love being active outside as well. I love to kayak, hike, ski, whitewater raft, and my most recent escapade involved camping with friends. My faith plays a huge role in my life and being outdoors makes me feel closely connected to my Creator which is another reason why I love being outside so much.
While school and work did take up the majority of my time, I loved being heavily involved in extracurriculars. I have participated in Ouachita's Student Foundation's fundraising Tiger Tunes for the past three years, as well as Tiger Serve Day every semester which serves the Arkadelphia community. I spent the most recent serve day with the Humane Society. I also enjoyed being able to serve through the Elrod Center and America Reads at Arkadelphia's Perritt Elementary school, helping children with their reading skills. I was also involved with a social club, The Women of Chi Mu, where I have been elected to and served as a design chair and served as an Induction Chair for three years, and was on the Panhellenic council for two years. And of course, I loved cheering on my Tigers every chance I got!
